Frederick Albert Maddocks was born Frederick Albert Armison in July 1892 in Shardlow, Derbyshire. His mother Harriett married Joseph Maddocks when Frederick was 2 years old. Harriett then went on to have 4 children with Joseph.

In 1911 Frederick is 18 years old living at 38 Hey Street, Sawley, Derbyshire & working as a brass bobbin threader within the lace manufacturing business. His sister Dorothy Ann 16, is also working in the lace trade as a slip winder. His stepfather Joseph 50,  is a bricklayer's labourer, Mother Harriett 39, is at home & brothers Wilfred 13 & John Henry aged 12 are at school.

When war broke out Frederick joined the 5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters. He died of pneumonia on 1st September 1914 & is buried in the cemetery on Crawley Green Road.
