Percy James Osborn was born in January 1890 in Eaton Bray, Bedfordshire. He was the only son of 3 children born to Abel & Annie.

In 1911 Percy is 21 years old & working as a skating rink floor manager & living with his family at 195 Dunstable Road above the shop that his 48 year old father runs selling fruit & confectionary. His mother Annie is 49, older sister Kate is 23 & working as a straw hat finisher & younger sister Hilda is 14 & at school.

Percy enlisted into the Royal Army Service Corps Mechanical Transport division on 17th November 1915 at Grove Park in London. He was employed at Messrs Adams Morris & Co, cycling & motor agents of 33 New Bedford Road & had already served in the Eastern Mounted Brigade, a territorial force, for 3 years & 143 days prior to joining up. His pension record tells us that he was 5ft 6 1/2 inches tall with black hair & grey eyes. He provided home service from 17th November 1915 to 1st April 1916  before being posted to France, where he served for 4 months until August 1916.

It was reported in the Beds & Herts Saturday Telegraph on 12th August 1916 that Percy had written home from a base hospital in France, recovering from the effects of gas, to tell of being mentioned in despatches. He had been attached to an ammunition column for 6 months after joining the Transport Service.

On the 16th August 1916 Percy left France & came back to England with a severe GSW to his upper left arm. Whilst in hospital he complained of great thirst & was losing weight, so after testing it was discovered that he had a large amount of sugar in his urine & was diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus.

Percy was discharged as physically unfit as a result of active service on 2nd January 1917.

He died on 22nd April 1917.

Percy is buried in the General Cemetery on Rothesay Road, Luton.
