Meredyth Robert Owen Williams was born in April 1894. He was the youngest of 6 children born to Alderman Herbert Owen & Edith Jane.
In 1911 he is a 16 year old school boy & living with his family at Farley Lynches, Farley Hill, Luton. His father is Deputy Mayor of the town & a building materials merchant, owning several properties in George Street. His sisters Dorothy Francis 27, Gladys Myfanwy 25 & 20 year old Judith Mary are also living at home. Meredyth's older brother Gwynne is a medical student & living away from home at a university student's house in St Pancras, London.
In May 1916 Meredyth received his commission & was enlisted into the 25th (Tyneside Irish) Batallion of the Northumberland Fusiliers.
In 1917 the Batallion fought in The First and Second Battles of the Scarpe and The Battle of Arleux during the Arras Offensive. It was at 5 o'clock in the morning of 14th March 1917 that Meredyth was killed by a shell whilst manning a support trench during a heavy German raid.
He is buried in the Military Cemetery Faubourg-d'Amiens in France. He is also remembered on the family memorial in the cemetery on Crawley Green Road.
