Pte Robert Charles Morsley, 3804, C Company, 1st Battalion Honourable Artillery Company, was killed in action on the Ancre, Somme, on November 14th[1], 1916. He was just short of his 18th birthday.

Robert was the second son of iron foundry foreman Charles and Martha Morsley, of 21 Park Street West [now Strathmore Avenue], Luton. He was educated at Luton Modern School, where he was a school games captain.

Pte Ewart William Clark, 82, Royal Army Medical Corps, 54th East Anglian Casualty Clearing Hospital, was lost when the troopship Royal Edward was torpedoed off the island of Kandeloussa in the Aegean Sea by German submarine UB-14 on August 13th, 1915.

The son of Daniel and Emma Jane Clark, of 7 Park Road West [now Strathmore Avenue], Luton, he joined the RAMC the previous April. He was aged 17 and lived in Summer Street, Slip End, as a child.

Pte Alfred Smith, 4275, 1st Battalion Beds Regt, was killed in action at Gallipoli on Sunday, August 15th*, 1915. He left a widow and two young children, one a baby he had never seen, at 29 Park Road West, Luton [now Strathmore Avenue].

Pte Bert (Bertie) Euinton, 2720, B Company, 24th Battalion County of London Regiment ("The Queen's"), died on May 29th, 1915, from wounds sustained in action three days earlier.

The son of Henry and Lizzie Euinton, of 48 Park Road West [now Strathmore Avenue], Luton, he was the third of three cousins to die on the battlefield in just over six weeks.

Pte Arthur Euinton, 2731, 3rd Battalion Royal Fusiliers, was killed in action at Hill 60 on April 14th, 1915. A Luton lad, his parents lived in London.
