Schools given good reports

The report of H.M. Inspector with regard to the Hitchin Road Boys' School states: "The school is well organised and capably and intelligently taught, and its general condition is very satisfactory.

"Order is excellent, and in all their work the boys make good progress, especially in the upper part of the school. Arithematic is particularly good, physical exercises, singing and drawing are competently taught, and in every class the careful attention which is given to the revision of the work of previous years is a notable feature. A library of well-chosen books is being gradually formed and is used to good purpose. There can be no doubt the master and members of his staff have the best interests of the boys thoroughly at heart, and spare no effort to promote their welfare and happiness."

Of St Matthew's Girls' School H.M. Inspector states: "The condition of this school reflects much credit on the mistress and her staff. The teaching is earnest and stimulating, discipline is good and the general atmosphere is one of refinement. The girls receive a training which is suitable for their future lives, and the work in all its branches is meritorious."
