Prisoners of war acknowledge parcels

The Town Clerk (Mr William Smith) has now received acknowledgements of the receipt of parcels sent by the Luton Prisoners of War Fund to the 10 Luton men who are prisoners of war in Germany.

Mrs Pinney, of 55 Windsor Street, wrote: "I am writing to let you know that my husband, who is a prisoner of war in Germany, has told me that he has received the parcel which was sent from the Town Hall quite safely, and my husband said I was to thank you very much indeed for your kindness. He said he had a good feed, it was such a God-send, and it was such a useful parcel and everything in good order."

Joseph Good, 1st Bedfords, who is at Minden, writes: "Your parcel, which I received on June 28th, was very, very acceptable. The contents were in good order and not soiled, and I must congratulate everybody in Luton borough for thinking of me at such a time as this."

Charlie Odell, who is at Salzwedel, writes: "I received your parcel quite safe, thanking you one and all for your kindness. I must say I am very proud of our little town of Luton, for I must say we find it very hard to make two ends meet here. But we are looking for the good time to come. Wishing you the best of luck."

Other acknowledgements have also been received.
