Why sharing history is GREAT

I love sharing historical content with people. I like the process of discovery, the digitsation, the clean up, the uploading and the publicising.RFA Crest from Guestbook

I love it because, each time somebody sees content for the first time and has that “Wow!” moment…I get the same buzz I had when I too first saw it.

So, allow me to share some of the fantastic content we have had turn up during Luton’s Great War project…And we haven’t even opened the exhibition yet!

All content is downloadable from the ‘media files and documents’ link on the pages I attach to this post. Watermarked where required.

Firstly. The war diaries of Driver William Edward Owen, including his observations on the first day of the Battle of the Somme. Originals and transcribed.

W.E. Owen’s postcard collection…About 60, front and back.

An autograph book from YMCA Hut, compiled during the closing days of Number 6 Reserve Training Brigade (Royal Field Artillery)  Biscot Camp, in Luton. Lots of poigniant farewells.

An autograph book from 45 Crawley Road, Luton. Some lovely pictures and crests inside. Very reflective in places.
