Frederich Wilhelm Spriegel was born on the  24th Feb 1893 in Luton, Bedfordshire.

His parents were Frederich Wilhelm Spriegel (Snr) born 1868 in Wurtemburg Germany and Norah Louisa Caroline Fisburne born 1871 in Macclesfield, Cheshire.

The 1891 England census shows Frederich Senior, age 22 living as a boarder in the home of George William Fishburne (Head Game Keeper) and his wife Louisa Marie Fisburne in Summer Street, Slip End, Bedfordshire, occupation Pork Butcher.  Their daughter Norah Fisburne is listed at the same address age 20.   Frederich and Norah were married on 2nd October 1892 in Flamstead, Hertfordshire. Sadly, Frederich Snr died age 28 on 16th August 1898.  The family, now including a daughter Daphne, were then living at 137 Park Street Luton.  ‎

The 1901 England Census shows Norah Spreigel age 30, Grocery Shop Keeper in Kingsbourne Green, Harpenden, Herts with her son Frederich Wilhelm age 8.  Norah married  Owen Harry Roberts (a Shop Keeper)  on 3rd December 1901 in Harpenden Hertfordshire and the 1911 England Census shows the Roberts family now living at 15 St Pauls Road, Luton, Bedfordshire with Frederich Wilhelm Spriegel listed as step son, age 17 and a Grocer's Clerk.

The 1918 General Election Absent Voters List for Luton and district records a FRIEDRICH WILHELM SPRIEGEL 4737 M2/020481 Pte  ASC MT (Army Service Corps Mechanical Transport) residing at 15 St Paul's Road, Luton, Bedfordshire.

We know that Frederich survived the War as he married Georgette C D Coquatrix in 1917 and died age 70 in 1963 in Luton.

 

NB. The spelling of his given name varies from Friedrich to Frederich on different records.  There is an instance of the Surname spelling of Spreigel.
