Although unable to obtain his transfer overseas before cessation of hostilities he rendered valuable services as Sergeant-Cook and was demobilised in March 1919.

The National Roll (mostly submitted by families) describes his service as follows: He joined in November 1916 and was engaged on special duties as a baker with his unit at various home stations. He was unable to obtain his transfer to a theatre of war until after the signing of the Armistice. He was then sent to Germany with the Army of Occupation and served at Cologne until demobilised in 1919 after returning to England.

Sergeant George Sturgess

The National Roll (mostly submitted by families) describes his service as follows: He volunteered in 1915 and in the following year proceeded overseas. Whilst on the Western Front he fought in many battles including those of Arras, Cambrai, St Quentin, the Somme and the allied advance into Germany. He returned home after the cessation of hostilities and was demobilised in January 1919 and hold the General Service and Victory Medals.

The National Roll (mostly submitted by families) describes his service as follows: He joined in 1917 and in the same year, on conclusion of his training was drafted to France. in this theatre of war he took part in many important engagements including those at Bullecourt. Messines, Cambrai and the Somme and was gassed and wounded during the Offensive in March 1918. He was demobilised in January 1919 and holds the General service and Victory Medals.
