Private William Ansell

William was born in Shillington in 1879.

William married Sarah Deveraux in 1899 in Ampthill.

In 1911 he is living with his wife & family, two daughters, Maud and Elizabeth, and a son, William Frank at Nomansland Cottage, Sandridge St Albans where William is working as a shepherd.

 

 

 

Private Henry George Custance

From the Luton News 13th July 1916.  DEATH OF PRIVATE CUSTANCE. Escaped in Battle - succumbed to Illness.   The sad news has just been received of the death in Egypt of Private Henry Custance, of the 1/5th Bedfords, aged 21 years, and son of Mr and Mrs Custance of 15 Kings Road. Luton.

Private Edward James Clarke

Private Edward James Clarke was the eldest son of Charles and Emma Clarke of The Bull public house at Offley. He had two younger daughters and three younger brothers, all of whom worked in and around the public house, and assisted with baking and selling bread as well as the other jobs associated with brewing and serving ale.
