Photograph of a group of Royal Field Artillery signallers on a course at 6th Reserve Brigade training school at Luton. The man behind the person with the blackboard is my grandfather Percy Morton of the 24th Brigade Royal Field Artillery. I think the date of the photograph is May 1917
Elizabeth was a Luton munitionette and is shown in a group photograph from 1916 kindly supplied by a reader of this website. She is the fourth person from the left on the top row.
Elizabeth married William Fisher who served with the Hertfordshire Yeomanry and the couple were residents of Redbourn and Harpenden.
Private W. Street served in the 2nd Bedfordshire Regiment and Machine Gun Corps. His Service Number was 18436. (This number is on the side of the medals). Volunteering in December 1914 he was sent overseas in September of the following year and saw much service in various parts of the Western Front. Fighting at Givenchy, Arras, the Somme, and many other places. He was gassed and on recovery he was transferred to the labour corps. Where he served as a cook. He can be seen wearing a 'white' coat seated in a photograph with his troop.
