7th Battallion Bedfordshire Regiment

Formed at Bedford in September 1914 as part of K2 and attached as Divisional Troops to 15th (Scottish) Division.
25 February 1915 : transferred to 54th Brigade, 18th (Eastern) Division.
25 May 1918 : reduced to cadre, men transferring to 2nd Bn.
25 May 1918 :cadre transferred to 89th Brigade, 30th Division.
19 June 1918 :transferred to 197th Brigade, 66th (2nd East Lancashire) Division.
31 July 1918 : cadre absorbed by 2nd Bn.

Private Joseph Summerfield

Private Joseph Summerfield was the only son of George and Rose Summerfield of Sundon, and brother to two younger sisters, Lizzie and Ethel. His father was a Labourer at a Lime Works, and Joseph followed in his fathers footsteps and became a labourer at the Cement Works when he was 14.

Joseph joined the 7th Bedfordshire Regiment on the outbreak of war, and served  2 years in France, without any leave, before he was killed on the 17th June.

 

The War Diary for the 7th Bedfords states:

2nd Lieutenant Tom Edwin Adlam V.C.

Tom Edwin Adlam was born at Waterloo Gardens in Salisbury, on the 21st October 1893, the son of John and Evangeline Adlam. Following his education at Bishop Wordsworth's School, Salisbury, he joined the Territorial Force in September 1912, and in November 1915 was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Bedfordshire Regiment.
