Windsor Street

Private Ebenezer Logan

 

Pte Ebenezer Logan, 7360, 7th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, was killed in action at Ovillers-la-Boisselle on the Somme on January 24th, 1917. He was aged 20.

Born in Luton, he had lived at 8 Windsor Street with his widowed mother, Hannah, older brother Arthur William and sister Ada. Another brother, Fred, was married and serving with the R.A.M.C. in Egypt.

Private John Radford

 

Pte John Radford, 23496, 4th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, died in the No. 44 Casualty Clearing Station in France on November 14th, 1916, the day after he was wounded in action on the Somme.

Pte Sidney John Vass, his lifelong pal from Luton with whom he enlisted and went to France, was also to died in hospital from November 13th wounds sustained on the Somme. He passed away on November 24th, 1916.

Sergeant Albert Hinks

 

Sgt Albert Hinks, 2382, B Company, 1/5th Beds Regt, was killed in action at Gallipoli on August 16th, 1915. It marked a double tragedy for his widow Clara Elizabeth, who lost her baby just a week before the sergeant sailed for the Dardanelles.

The only son of Frederick and Elizabeth Hinks, of 36 Windsor Street, Luton, Sgt Hinks was born in Mansfield, Notts in the early summer of 1887.
