Private Reginald Roland Gurney Press

Reginald Roland Gurney Press was born in St Albans on 4th February 1895, 1 of 3 children born to Frederick Edmond & Lillian Ada.

In 1901 aged 5 years, Reginald is living at 48 North Street, Carshalton, Surrey. His father is 42 years old & working as a tobacconist whilst his 32 year old mother is at home looking after him & his 4 month old sister Rosa.

Private Frederick Charles Foster

Frederick Charles Foster was born in Luton in 1887.

In 1901 he his living with his large family at numbers 66 & 68 John Street, the family bakery. His father Charles is head of the family & is living at number 68 with his mother Marion & brothers Herbert 12, Arthur 9 & 2 year old Thomas. At the shop next door, number 66, 14 year old Frederick is living with his widowed grandmother Mary Foster, his aunt Edith 27, a straw hat machinist, aunt Esther 20, a domestic help, 1 year old cousin Leslie & boarders, Clifford & Edith Campbell who are actors.

Corporal Sydney Ewart Cannon

Sydney was born in 1885 to John Thomas and Eliza. He was living at 6 Crawley Green Road in 1911 with his mother, a straw hat machinist, four sisters, Olive, a milliner aged 19, Doris 12, Marjorie 10, Elsie 7 and his 4 year old brother Leslie. Sydney was working in the hat factory warehouse. He had attended Luton Grammar School & is remembered on the Roll Of Honour plaque found at Stockwood Park.
