It has been compiled from the 1918 Luton Absent Voters List, Rolls of Honour; and information researched and uploaded by project volunteers and members of the public.

Pte Sidney George Dimmock, 42561, 8th Battalion Royal Fusiliers, was killed in action in France on October 20th, 1917. He was aged 29 and a member of a Lewis gun team.
Gunner Thomas Williamson, 39307, 180th Siege Battery Royal Garrison Artillery, was killed in action on September 21st, 1917. He had first arrived in France on August 20th, 1914.
Capt William Henry Coate, Munster Fusiliers*, was killed in action at Kakaraska on October 25th, 1917. He was the eldest son of the Rev Harry Coate, Vicar of St Matthew's Church, Luton, since 1894.
L-Cpl Henry Morgan, 41476, 13th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles, was killed in action on August 16th, 1917, although for a long period afterwards he was reported only as missing.
Pte Albert Edward Swann, 34011, 1/7th Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment, was killed in action near Ypres on October 4th, 1917. He was aged 28 and had been in the Army just over eight months.
Pte William 'Sonny' Lawson, 89750, 65th Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps, died on October 27th, 1917, from gunshot wounds sustained two days previously. The son of Luton Town FC trainer Billy Lawson, he had been serving as a stretcher bearer at the time.
Sgt Stanley Edward George Day, 235790, 24th (Tyneside Irish) Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, was killed in action in Belgium on October 15th, 1917.
Following his death on the evening of Saturday, October 27th, 1917, Dunstable, Luton and South Beds mourned the passing of prominent antiquarian, botanist, author and illustrator Worthington George Smith. He was aged 82 and had lived in Dunstable forjust over 30 years..
Pte Frederick Titmuss, 67893, 7th Battalion Royal Fusiliers, was killed in action in Belgium on October 30th, 1917. He was the second son of George and Sarah Kate Titmuss, of 40 Milton Road, Luton, to have lost his life on the battlefield.
Sgt Edward Bradshaw, 14620, 4th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, was killed in action near Passchendaele on October 30th, 1917. He was aged 20.
Pte Hubert William Field, 203270, 4th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, was presumed killed in action on October 30th, 1917, near Passchendaele. He was aged 20.
Pte Harry Crawley, 205822, 4th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, was killed in action near Passchendaele on October 30th, 1917. He was aged 24.
Pte Stuart John Webb, 42358, 2/7th Battalion Manchester Regiment, died in the 26th General Hospital at Etaples, France, on October 23rd, 1917, from gunshot wounds sustained at the Front on October 8th. He was aged 21 and had seen only seven months service in the Army.
Pte Sidney George Ward, 33678, 2nd Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, died on November 2nd, 1917, from wounds sustained near the front line in Belgium the previous day. He was aged 28.
Pte Sidney Walter Seabrook, 200453, 1/5th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, was killed in action at Gaza on November 2nd, 1917, during the Palestine campaign. He was aged 27.
Pte Herbert Bysouth, 201034, 1/5th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, was killed in action in the 3rd Battle of Gaza on November 2nd, 1917. He was aged 26.
Pte Frederick William Dickens, 200582, 1/5th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, was killed in action on November 2nd, 1917, during the 3rd Battle of Gaza. He was aged 34.
Pte Albert Edward Hill, 200054, 1/5th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, died in Palestine on November 3rd, 1917, from wounds sustained in the battle for Gaza.
Pte William Stenhouse, 200962, 1/5th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, was killed in action on November 3rd, 1917, during the climax to the Third Battle of Gaza.
Pte Percy Herbert Moulden, 200847, 1/5th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, was killed in action on November 3rd, 1917, during the climax to the Third Battle of Gaza.
Pte George Leonard Hawkes, 204221, 1st Battalion Norfolk Regiment, died of wounds in Belgium on November 5th, 1917. He joined the Bedfordshire Regiment (No. 3443) at the outbreak of war and was severely wounded in the jaw and shoulder at Gallipoli, requiring two years of medical treatment.
Sapper Frederick Charles Woodhouse, 99510, 220th Army Troops Company Royal Engineers, died in the No. 17 General Hospital, Alexandria, Egypt, on November 5th, 1917, from malaria.
Rifleman Arthur Hawes, 41477, 11/13th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles, was killed in action on August 16th, 1917. Three months later he was still listed merely as missing, leading to an appeal by his widowed mother for information.
Pte Harry Dennis Gutteridge, 27949, 7th Battalion Royal Fusiliers, was reported missing in action on February 5th, 1917, but his death on that date was not confirmed until the following November.
Pte Percy Edwin Snoxell, 245142, 2/2nd Battalion London Regiment Royal Fusiliers, was posted wounded and missing on October 26th, 1917, and was later presumed to have been killed on that date.
Pte Herbert Harry Abrahams, 68102, 7th Battalion Royal Fusiliers, was confirmed killed in action in Flanders on October 30th, 1917, after initially being reported missing on that date.
Cpl Ernest Walter Brooks, 295316, 2/4th Battalion London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers), was killed in action on September 20th, 1917. For ten weeks he had been reported missing before official confirmation of his death arrived in late November.
Pte Francis Finch, 23860, 7th Battalion The Buffs (East Kent) Regiment, was killed in action in Flanders on October 13th, 1917, having initially been reported missing.
Pte Sidney Harvey, 265421, 2nd Battalion Queen's (Royal West Surrey) Regiment, was killed in action in Flanders on October 26th, 1917, just five months after going to the Front.
L-Cpl George Henry Howe, 27970, 8th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, was killed in action in Flanders on September 26th, 1917, the day before his 19th birthday.
Pte Ernest William White, 235080, 1st Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment, was killed in action in Flanders on October 4th, 1917. The news of his death was conveyed in a letter from a comrade to widow Violet May at her parents' address at 142 New Town Street, Luton.
Pte George James Hodge, 36994, 4th Battalion Essex Regiment, was killed in action on November 3rd, 1917, near Gaza during the Egypt-Palestine campaign. He had initially been reported wounded and missing on that date.
Pte Reginald Alfred Crick, 16481, 16th Battalion Middlesex Regiment, was killed in action on October 9th*, 1917. He was attached to the Headquarters Staff as a runner and was killed instantly in the execution of his duty.
L-Cpl John Brown, 33017, 8th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment, died on October 22nd, 1917, from severe wounds sustained in action on October 9th. He was aged 34.
Pte Wallace James Oxborrow, 238044, 12th Battalion Middlesex Regiment, was killed in action in Flanders on November 12th, 1917. A comrade wrote that he had heard from others in the regiment that Wallace was killed instantly by a shell after being sent up the line with some wire.
Pte Andrew Wood MM, 12951, 1st Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, is recorded as having been killed in action in Flanders on November 13th, 1917, although in a letter to his parents an officer said his death occurred on the morning of the 14th.
Pte Herbert Horace Read, 60076, 11th Battalion Royal Fusiliers, was killed in action in Flanders on October 17th, 1917.
Pte William Thomas Loughton, 200280, 1/5th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, died in Palestine on November 14th, 1917. A Luton News brief report of his death said the cause was heart failure.
Pte Fred Linger, 57693, 18th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, died on November 15th, 1917, from wounds sustained on the battlefield the previous day. He was buried in a French cemetery on November 16th.
Cpl Thomas Henry Lodge, 200864, 1/5th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, died of wounds in Palestine on November 17th, 1917.
